Birthday Meal

On Monday 2nd February, I had booked a table for 6.30pm for five adults and two children to celebrate my birthday. I had deliberately booked an early meal as one of my grandchildren was only 15 months, the
other 3 years old who had been 'on the go' at nursery all day and I anticipated that he would be tired. On arrival there was no-one to greet me, it appeared that there was another party and they were being looked after. I went through to the bar where my daughters were sitting. There were no seats available and no-one offered to find one for either me or my grandson. Still no-one acknowledged our presence. It was nearly 7 0'clock before someone suggested that we go and sit at our table. Having got seated we waited for a drink, no one offered, so I managed eventually after two attempts to get the attention of a waiter to
order drinks. The next problem was trying to order food. The waiter, who either was on his first day or had had absolutely no training ( or both) did not know what the soup of the day was. He went away to find out, then had to go away again to find out what fish was available for the main course. The food admittedly, when it arrived, was good but then the next issue was that the 3 year old had been promised ice-cream. We had all tried to occupy him whilst attempting to get the attention of a waiter. By this time he was fed up and the manageress was making matters worse by expecting him to behave like a 30 year old. She was very aggressive which made him worse. I eventually had to go to the bar and ask someone if we could order desserts. By this time the party that had arrived at the same time as us were on their coffee and we had not even been offered dessert. I had booked an early meal so that we could leave before the children became too tired to cope and it had taken 2.5 hours to eat one course and still no sign of the promised ice-cream.
Tempers and patience were running out, a lamp was broken by the 3 year old. He was as tired and fed up as we all were. There was a complete lack of attention, service and staff training. The manageress had absolutely no management skills. She was very aggressive and even told my daughter that my grandson was totally out of control and should not be allowed in a restaurant. Customer service!!! My grandson has been out socially to numerous restaurants, in this country and abroad and there has never been a problem before, possibly because he felt welcome and was not made to feel like a liability.
She knew we had booked a table, we should have been just as important as the other party but we were totally ignored unless we requested service.
I sent an email of complaint but received no response. I emailed a second time and still no response. I telephoned nearly 4 weeks after this event to be greeted with an extremely aggressive response by Margaret, the Manageress, who admitted that she had ignored my email and proceeded to tell me that I was a liar and had not informed them there were to be children (I had made a quite specific point of telling them and there was a high chair already at the table when we sat down!!!), that we were half an hour late arriving and therefore did not deserve to be looked after and that we were all totally out of control and basically the atrocious service was all our fault.
It is interesting that there are a number of complaints on other review sites and it appears to be the management that is the problem. It is a lovely place and it is such a pity that these people let it down, big time.

Ruined Wedding

We were so sorry to hear of Mrs Hutchison's wedding day being spoiled at Strathblane Country House. She may be interested to know that to hold a liquor license and run a hotel you should be a "fit and proper" person,( i.e not dishonest or thieving).

We have also suffered shocking treatment from Strathblane Country House management/proprietors and understand how terribly upset she must be.

Her review says it all in a nutshell and we are certain that a copy of this, sent in writing to Stirling Council's licensing Department will have a great impact.

These people should not be allowed to get away with ruining the most important day of a girl's life, or any other important events that people have paid their hard-earned cash to celebrate at this once-great little hotel.

My Wedding, June 08

My experience at Strathblane Country House Hotel was for the most part not good. When my fianc? & I went looking for places to get married, I was so pleased to find Strathblane. It was just what we were looking for & after a meeting with Allan I was pleased to find out it was in our price range too. We were both disappointed when we went back to book & discovered that the prices we had been quoted by Allan were completely different from what Margaret was quoting. Even a lot of the things we were told were included in the price were in fact not. In hindsight we should have just found somewhere else after they had messed us about but I was totally smitten with the venue.
I was going to give a massive review but instead I will summarise. The list of problems is quite long.
They did not provide a guests seating chart (as promised), so everyone had to wonder about trying to find out where to sit.
They changed the amount of tables on the morning of the wedding, so my florist had to make an extra arrangement with no notice & we had to change our setting plan.
Two guests had there dinner dropped on them, they did not provide the children with food we had agreed on instead gave them a adult meal which the children refused to eat, the one veggie was brought out a non veggie meal & then had sit & wait for veggie food to be cooked while everyone else ate.
During the meal the guest were meant to have 3 bottle of wine on there tables, only two ever appeared & when questioned on where the other bottles had gone I was informed people had already drunk them. Which was a complete lie. Also they claimed that all the Cava had been used for the speeches & toasts even though I had bought extra for my mother & her friends to drink with the meal.
Only half of the evening food I had paid for was provided so hardly anyone got food. A member of staff threw away the top tier of my wedding cake so there was no cake for the evening guests. The bar prices varied between guests.
They booked another event for the evening in one of the other rooms even though we paid a fee so no other events could be held on the day!
I hired a room to get dressed in & a place for my baby to sleep till midnight, my bridesmaid was told at 9 that the room was needed to be emptied as other guests had booked the room (not from our party).
I was told someone had been charging drinks to my room & I would have to foot the bill (?50) even though I had not charged anything to my room & had never agreed for things to be charged to my room.
Wedding favours were cleared from the table & were ?lost?. This is 30 or more mini bottles of vodka & whisky.
There is actually more that went wrong but I am too upset to write anymore. I would not recommend this venue to anyone. The happiest day of my life was ruined.

Private Function

I recently attended a Wedding reception at this hotel. The Hotel itself is Beautiful. It is situated in some very pleasant Countryside and the building and grounds are well presented and maintained. I did not sample the food so cannot comment. I would however like to comment on my real dissapointment on the overall customer service received during our short visit, particularily at the hands of a very aggressive Manageress.

At the end of the evening - as normal at all weddings - we danced a final dance, to celebrate with the happy couple, with the band playing a rendition of 'Banks of Loch Lomond'. When we returned, our table had been stripped of all drinks. For a celebration such as a wedding I felt that this was unusal and expected the staff to wait a little longer. When I decided to raise my concern, the Manageress firstly was agressive, secondly threatened to contact the Police, and finally, to my utter astonishment brought the mother of the bride to me and accused me of creating problems - I can say that my actions were perfectly reasonable-. I was perfectly within my rights to raise these concerns with the Manageress. The same Manageress used her, only style of Hospitality (agression), earlier in the evening by confiscating a Hip Flask from another guest, at a SCOTTISH WEDDING!

I have attended Weddings - which are always 'special days' for everyone concerned - all over the world (France, Italy, Ireland, New Zeland, England). I, unfortunatley, had to return home, to Scotland, to get this unique style of Hospitality. The Manageress let herself down to an extent that I would not reccomend this, otherwise fine establishment. Fortunatley, this did not spoil a great occasion.
